Pulsemint

AI answering service in Doncaster

By Shadman Chowdhury, founder of Pulsemint · Updated 5 November 2026

Pulsemint is an AI answering service for Doncaster tradespeople and small businesses. When you can't answer your 01302 number or mobile, it picks up, takes the caller's name, number, address and the job, and texts you the details within about a minute. It costs £199 a month including up to 50 captured calls, with a free 14 day pilot and no contract.

Doncaster covers a huge area for one city, and a lot of your customers will be out in the villages rather than in the centre. This page covers what that means for the calls you miss.

Leave your name and email, then pick a time for a 15 minute setup call. No card and no contract. You keep your number.

Want to hear it first? Talk to the agent now. It answers questions about Pulsemint itself, and nobody will ring you back.

Three step diagram of how Pulsemint works: a call you don't answer diverts after a few rings, the agent takes the caller's name, number, job and address, and the details arrive on your phone as a text within about a minute.
How it works: your number stays the same, unanswered calls divert, and you get the details by text.

A city made of villages

Doncaster became a city in 2022, but most of the borough doesn't feel like one. Around the town centre there's the Minster, Frenchgate and the racecourse where the St Leger is run. Beyond that are the old pit villages: Armthorpe, Edlington, Bentley, Rossington, Thorne, Stainforth, Askern, Conisbrough, Mexborough. Each has its own identity, and callers will name the village rather than say Doncaster.

That spread means a lot of driving between jobs, often on the M18 and A1(M), and a lot of calls you can't take while you're at the wheel.

The housing

Many homes in the former mining villages were built for miners and their families, as terraces and semis of a similar age. They tend to need the same work at the same time: heating systems past their best, old wiring, roofs and chimneys that need attention. Add newer estates on the edges of the borough, and a growing number of homes for people working at the iPort and the other big warehouses, and there's steady work for local trades.

Getting Doncaster addresses right

The agent takes the village or area, the full address and the DN postcode, and reads it back to the caller. It matters here because Doncaster's DN postcodes run a long way out. Some of the places you're asked to go are a fair drive, and you want to know that before you ring back, not after you've agreed to go.

If you only cover part of the borough, I'll set the agent up to tell callers outside your area that you don't travel that far.

What a call looks like

Example call, to show how it works

A woman in Armthorpe rings at 8.05am. Her chimney stack has lost some mortar and a few bricks look loose after last week's wind. She's worried about it coming down.

URGENT-ISH. Chimney stack, mortar missing and loose bricks after wind. Semi, 2 storey. Worried about falling. Sheila, 07700 900598, 14 Example Avenue, Armthorpe, DN3. Home all day.

One thing to be upfront about: Pulsemint is run from Lowestoft, not Doncaster. The agent answers calls remotely, so where it's based makes no difference to the caller. What matters is whether it gets Doncaster addresses right, and whether you can reach a person when you want something changed. You can: you deal with me directly.

Keeping your 01302 number

Your number doesn't change. Whether customers ring a 01302 landline or your mobile, your phone diverts the calls you don't answer to Pulsemint after however many rings you choose. Your van, your website, your Google Business Profile and your Checkatrade or MyBuilder listing all stay exactly as they are.

Setup takes about ten minutes of your time. I set the agent up with your business name, the trades you do, the Doncaster areas you cover and anywhere you won't travel to. If anything ever fails at our end, calls ring your phone as they do now.

Trades we answer for in Doncaster

Each trade gets different questions, because a plumber and a roofer need to know different things before they ring back. These pages explain what the agent asks for each one:

Working on your own? There's a page on using Pulsemint as a virtual receptionist for sole traders, and one on evening and weekend cover.

Is it worth it for a Doncaster business?

Only your own numbers can answer that. Count last week's missed calls, take out the spam and suppliers, and be realistic about how many were jobs you'd have won. Multiply by what a job is worth to you. If it comes to more than £199 a month, it pays. If it doesn't, a better voicemail and missed call text back may be all you need. The calculator on the Pulsemint homepage does the sum for you, and this guide explains the method.

Common questions

Will it understand the Doncaster villages?

Yes. It takes the village name, the full address and the DN postcode and reads them back, so you know exactly where the job is.

Can I keep my 01302 number?

Yes. Your phone diverts the calls you don't answer, and your number stays the same.

Can it tell callers I don't cover their area?

Yes. You tell me where you work, and it can let callers further out know straight away.

Does it work while I'm driving?

That's one of the main reasons people use it. You don't touch the phone, and the details are waiting as a text when you stop.

Do I need to be based in Doncaster?

No, and neither does the service. It answers remotely for any number you divert to it.

Who is behind this

I'm Shadman, and I build and run Pulsemint myself from Lowestoft. When you start the pilot, I set the agent up for your business and you deal with me directly, not a support queue. If it doesn't catch jobs you'd otherwise have lost, don't keep it.
